Raven Crag
Location - Raven Crag ( LA22 9JU) occupies a superb position adjacent to the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in the beautiful Great Langdale valley eight miles from Ambleside. It is ideally placed for enjoyment of the Lake District with excellent walking and climbing from its doorstep.
Travel - From Ambleside take the A593 towards Coniston and turn right at Skelwith Bridge onto the B5343. Continue along this road through the villages of Elterwater and Chapel Stile, past the New Dungeon Ghyll hotel, and one mile later turn right into the drive leading to the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel. Follow the drive to the right of the hotel which leads up behind the hotel to Raven Crag.
Upon arrival – You may drive up to the cottage to unload cars but only three cars may park there – a restriction imposed by the National Trust. Additional parking is available a hundred yards away in the National Trust car park beside the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel. Four free-parking passes for this car park can be obtained from the window sill beside the telephone in Raven Crag. Please remember to return these passes when you leave.
Accommodation - The property is a typical Lake District Cottage set against the fells including the buttress of Raven Crag itself. The cottage has considerable character with white rough cast stone walls and a slate roof, and exposed beams and timber panelling inside. Inside there are four bedrooms, a lounge, a kitchen/diner, a drying room, toilets and showers. Twenty-four bunk beds are provided in the four separate bedrooms (one room has four beds, two have six beds, and one has eight beds). All beds have pillows, blankets and Dunlopillo mattresses. You need to bring your own sleeping bag or sheets and pillowcases. Storage radiators centrally heat the cottage and there are separate heaters in each room.
